Tomorrow I will be hoping on a flight to San Francisco to shoot a music video for record label, Muted Digital. While there I hope to have a chance to meetup with other fellow HDSLR shooters and enthusiasts. After about 5 minutes of planning, local Bay Area resident, Michelle Brown of moshbrown.com, and I will be getting together this Friday, Jan. 14, 7pm at The Irish Bank bar and restaurant. Anyone and everyone is invited to join us. This will be a very casual meetup with no agenda or schedule, just kicking back talking about DSLR’s, gear, etc. over a couple drinks. So if you are in the area, swing on by after work! (look for us on the patio) Continue reading →
I was approached by the organizers of the local San Antonio Chapter of TEDx to create a short, 10-15 second video intro. The intro would be included on all of their videos and would play directly before the main content. They requested the video to showcase some of the people and places of San Antonio, however, not to focus on some of our major attractions like the Alamo and Riverwalk.
TED is huge and has members around the world; the videos that each chapter is putting out are getting millions of views. I thankfully accepted the job, and took a couple of days to come up with an idea. Next, I spent a few days around town capturing some footage, first the downtown area, also a local Air Force Air Show, and even a Dia De Los Muertos celebration being held at Hemisfair Park. After arriving home I quickly realized I got way too much footage to fit inside a 10 second intro. I had to figure out a way to show as much as I could in the short time allotted. Finally, I came up with the idea of, instead of showing one location at a time, how about 3? By cutting the viewing area into three seperate frames I could show 3 different shots at a time with a total of 9 shots, instead of just a few. I placed my shots in the timeline of Premiere Pro CS5, grabbed some music, “Laid Back Guitars”, thanks to Kevin MacLeod, and started editing it all together.
Below is the completed intro:
And here it is added to the a talk, this one featuring San Antonio Mayor, Julian Castro.
I was hired by local San Antonio rock band Tension Speak to create a new music video for their upcoming CD release, “This War”. They choose the track “Choke” and after a brief meeting with the band, and listening to the inspiration for the song I came up with a storyline. The song is about the world caving down on you, with so much pressure you feel like you are getting choked out. I know I can relate to this, and I believed others could as well. We were to use 4 members of the band to show 4 different vices, including alcoholism, drug addiction, no money, and cheating wife. The lead singer, Fred Silva was to play the role of the “Angel”, stopping the other person from doing damage to themself or to others. Sounded great on paper, but could I pull this off?? This would be my second music video, and after the first one, I was confident, but staying humble. I went home that night, thought about it some more, came up with a shot list and went to bed uneasy. This weekend, for the first time, we participated in the San Antonio Film Commission’s own, “48hr Film Experience“. If you have never participated in one of these before, let me tell you it’s quite a ride! For those unfamiliar with the weekend long event, each team is given specific criteria to incorporate into their film, and then have 48 hours to write, edit, and score the film. Films are also limited to 8 minutes in running time. So a couple weeks beforhand we started casting in preparation of the event. I was lucky enough to land Anthony Guajardo (pictured above), who has been most recently seen on AMC’s hit new series, “The Walking Dead”, as Miguel on episode 4, “Vatos”. Continue reading →
This project was a first for the majority involved, especially the crew. I had just come off releasing my first music video and was looking for a new project to work on. I was browsing casting/crew calls on ShortFilmTexas.com and came across an ad for a short film looking for a Director of Photography in San Antonio. Continue reading →

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at creating a timelapse for a while now. Last week I finally took the leap and ordered a knockoff intervalometer from ebay seller ADPLO. Shipping from Hong Kong took 7 days to reach Texas, and last night I was able to give it a test run. Continue reading →
The family and I took a little day trip down to Port Aransas, Texas for Memorial Day. We had a great time! Beautiful weather, warm water, and the kids really enjoyed being on the beach again. If you have never been to Port A, or haven’t been in a while, we definitely recommend it! Continue reading →
