Ask Rod: Premiere Pro CS5 Export Settings?

via comment:  “What are your settings for premiere pro cs-5 and what do you export as?”  -Randy

Great question Randy!  In fact, I had this very same question when I first started using Premiere Pro CS5.  I was lucky enough to be pointed in the right direction by a fellow HDSLR shooter and Premiere user, Richard Allen Crook.  Below are a couple of screenshots I took of the settings I use to produce a 1080p, 16:9 aspect ratio video and 1080p 2.35:1 cropped cinema version.  Please remember, the export setting’s I use below is what has worked for me and might not necessarily be the right way to do it. So try a little experimenting and see what you come up with!  -Rod

Also, if you want to read more about exporting to 2.35:1 aspect ratio, here is a helpful blog post from the man himself, Philip Bloom, “How to Export and Upload 2.35 Video to Vimeo”.

Thanks for this post. I just went from FinalCut to the Adobe Suite…. At first I was a bit skeptical but now I’m a believer. I’m a heavy photoshop and illustrator user, so I am going to appreciate the layers in this and the integration….

Your welcome Tony! Feel free to save the images to your machine for future reference. Thanks for the stopping by and the comment!

  3. JRoss says:

Thanks Rod. This was very useful, was unsure exactly on how to get the 2.35:1 crop in premiere.

  4. Rod says:

    Excellent, I hoped it helped!

  5. Dylan says:

Thanks for the tip. Going to work this into all my future projects.

    Hey Rod,

Finally got around to getting a trial version of Premiere! I had an opportunity to get CS5.5 and these settings helped tremendously!

One weird thing is that I tried to change my video to 1920 x 1080, and it wouldn’t let me. It might be something to do with CS5.5 or the fact that it’s a trial version. Have you run into this before? I set pretty much the same settings you had in your screenshots.
